5 lessons I’ve learned after 5 years in Tech

I’ve only recently shared that I’ve decided to take a sabbatical to reflect on my career and my personal life to learn more about myself and define my next steps regarding my career and take the risk of being part of the creator economy.

During these past years in product, I’ve worked from early-stage startups to hyper-growth ones as ManoMano, and I’ve learned many truths that I hope you find useful for your own journey.

Lesson number 1: Never be afraid to negotiate your salary.

As a woman, I struggled to be able to negotiate my salary, and more often than I should have, I said yes to low-paid jobs, unknowing that it was more difficult to get a salary increase when already employed within the company.

When in hiring interviews, you decide your work value. You know yourself better than anyone, and the value you give to yourself is much more important than the one the company has. Make sure to check the salary brackets, and always ask for the higher as there will always be opportunities to negotiate down, but it will be difficult to negotiate up.

However, if it’s complicated to get a better offer, make sure to agree in written form, that you would like a salary revision within 3 or 6 months, to ensure that there is a revision happening in some specific timeframe and…
